A yoke is a horizontal panel that can be used very effectively for shaping as it can absorb dart values. It means that the pattern maker can fit a garment to the body without using darts.
In jeans the yoke panel allows the pieces to mould better around the curves. Because the yoke is essential in determining the shape and fit of the jeans and not all curves are equal, finding the right yoke design - yes, there are many to choose from - will mean that your jeans will fit better and look better.
In this post I’ll pick up where I left off in my previous post and talk a bit about comparing adjoining pattern pieces to ensure that they are correct. This is done by truing and blending the junction points of the pattern pieces to verify the flow of the design line.
