This was supposed to be my second project for this year's Refashioners but life got in the way.

Questo doveva essere il mio secondo progetto per i Refashioners di quest’anno, ma poi la vita si è intromessa.

::::The Safor skirt pattern lends itself rather well to a jeans refashion: it has many pieces and the worn denim is stable enough to sustain a grainline rotation. In fact I laid most of the front on cross grain because there wasn't enough width in the two old pairs of man’s jeans, I used. I placed the front overlap panel in contrast color with the grainline aligned with the edge. It didn't seem very logical / functional to have it placed on bias. I stabilised the edge of the underlap with sew on tape. I also understitched the facings along the front. Stretched out, wavy edges are a big no no in my wardrobe.::Il cartamodello della gonna Safor si presta a mio avviso, bene a un refashion di jeans: ha molte parti e il denim usato è abbastanza stabile da non dare problemi se si ruota il filo. In fatti, non riuscendo a ottenere una pezza abbastanza alta dalle due paia di jeans da uomo che ho usato per confezionare questa gonna, ho dovuto piazzare quasi tutto il davanti sul trasversale. Ho piazzato il pannello a contrasto del sormonto superiore con il bordo esterno allineato al drittofilo. Non mi è sembrato molto logico / funzionale metterlo in sbieco. Ho stabilizzato il bordo del sormonto inferiore con bindello in drittofilo. Ho rifinito con impunture interne (understitching) i bordi delle paramonture del sormonto. Nel mio guardaroba non c’è posto per una gonna con un sormonto sformato.::::

::::As I said, I used two old pairs of jeans to make this skirt, the light blue pair is slightly less heavy then the darker one but they are both in the upper medium weight range so getting rid of the bulk involved, beside the usual seam allowance grading, a lot of pressing and hammering. I managed though to put in one pocket. This is after all an everyday skirt and pockets are always a welcomed feature. I recycled the waistband from the darker pair. I removed the button and turned it over so the darker areas were there used to be the belt loops and the label wouldn't be a bother. I replaced the invisible zipper with a sturdy metallic teeth one, sewn centred.::Come ho gia detto ho usato due vecchie paia di jeans per realizzare questa gonna. Il paio chiaro è un po’ più leggero ma entrambi sono nella gamma denim di peso medio alto, quindi ho dovuto spianare e martellare parecchio per rimuovere l’ingombro nelle cuciture. Sono riuscita comunque a inserire una tasca. Questa è dopo tutto, una gonna da tutti i giorni e le tasche sono sempre benvenute. Ho riciclato il cinturino dal paio più scuro. Ho rimosso il bottone e l'ho girato così da nascondere il segno dei passanti e dell’etichetta. Invece della cerniera invisibile ho montato centrale una cerniera solida in metallo.::::

::::I cut a size 38 as per sizing chart and I made no muslin; this is a skirt, not the most complex garment to fit. I didn't even lengthened it. I like this skirt length on me. The only thing I had to fit was the front yoke. My final piece is about two centimetres shorter at the center front. In my opinion the grading on the yoke might be going in the wrong direction: it gives more of a curve at smaller sizes. 🤔?::Ho tagliato una taglia 38 come da tabella taglie e non ho confezionato una teletta di prova. Stiamo parlando di una gonna, non è esattamente l’indumento più difficile del mondo da adattare. Non l’ho nemmeno allungata. Mi piace questa lunghezza gonna su di me. L’unica parte che ho dovuto adattare è stata la baschina davanti. Il pezzo finito misura circa due centimetri in menu sul cento davanti. Amo parere lo sviluppo taglie su questa baschina potrebbe esser stato fatto nella direzione sbagliata: crea una rotondità maggiore alle taglie più piccole. 🤔?::::

::::I didn't wear this skirt much yet, I only finished it two days ago, but I already like it a lot, and not only because Miuccia showed lots of wraps for SS2017. I like it because I love everything denim and it's comfortable. It has the right amount of ease and I can walk in it, even with my long stride without being afraid of flashing people. You must agree, that's always a plus. ::Non ho ancora indossato molto questa gonna, l’ho finita solamente due giorni fa, ma gia mi piace tantissimo, e non solo perché la signora Miuccia ha fatto uscire tantissimi "incroci" nella sfilata PE2017. Mi piace perché adoro tutto ciò che è denim e sopratutto perché è confortevole indossata. Ha la giusta vestibilità e posso sia stare seduta che caminare, anche con il mio passo lungo, senza avere paura di far vedere niente che non si dovrebbe vedere. Il che, penso siete d’accordo, è importante in un ambiente ufficio.::::
