::::Hi Refashioners! I am so happy to participate again – The Refashioners hosted by the amazing Portia is my favorite online sewing event!
As you may already know this year's theme is: "Inspired by …" a garment you covet, a designer you like, a style icon, a movie … whatever rocks your boat and gets your creative juices flowing!
With "The Refashioners" being a British series, I chose the UK based, Central Saint Martins trained designer: Rejina Pyo (whose aesthetic I really like … like please, this falls definitely in the radical nun category 😆) and one of her designs, the Lizzie dress as my "inspiration":

::Ciao Refashioners! Sono molto contenta di partecipare anche quest'anno – The Refashioners, ospitata dalla fantastica Portia di The Makery, è il mio evento online di cucito preferito!
Come forse alcune tra voi sanno già, il tema di quest'anno è Ispirato da…, un capo che vorresti avere, un designer che ti piace, un'icona di stile, un film … qualunque cosa libera la vostra vena creativa!
Poiché "The Refashioners" è una serie britannica, ho scelto come "ispirazione" un capo firmato Rejina Pyo, una designer uscita dal Central Saint Martins di Londra, della quale apprezzo moltissimo l'estetica ( questo vestito cade decisamente, anche un po' troppo, nello stile "monaca radical" che a me piace tanto). Il vestito Lizzie: ::::

::::I used a couple of my dad's old pants that we didn't donate to charity because … well, the fabric is AMAZING so I set them aside to be refashioned. Besides, it's a small way in which I can still feel connected to him.
The fabrics although the same color (maybe one slightly darker than the other) are different composition and weave structure. One is a cashmere and silk blend the other is cool wool.

::Ho usato due paia di pantaloni di mio papà che avevo messo da parte perché il tessuto è STUPENDO e quindi li ho tenuti appunto per "refashionarli".
I pantaloni, anche se hanno lo stesso colore (o quasi, uno è leggermente più scuro dell'altro) sono fatti da due stoffe completamente diverse. Un paio è un misto cashmere e seta e l'altro e fresco di lana, quindi più leggero. ::::

::::Instead of draping this myself, this time I opted for an existing pattern as my starting base, just in case some of you like the original Rejina Pyo design as much as I do and wanna try to DIY .

The "inspiration" dress is cut (I'm guessing by looking at the fit) on bias, has small bust darts and some form of back shaping. Maybe…. The pictures do not really betray the construction. Anyway, we can safely suppose it uses a good amount of fabric. Not something that can be made out of a couple of pairs of pants. But hey, the theme is "Inspired by…" and not the "Copy of…" so I went for a top version with a slight A-line cut that can be worn over pants, skirts or leggings. Btw, according to NYFW and British Vogue, AW18 is still "leggings with everything", so go ahead and wear them, I know you want to 😉. The Burda 110 dress from the June 2017 issue, an A-line one shoulder dress seemed a good starting point. I shortened and slimmed it and I cut a muslin. I put it on my dress-form and re-draped. Basically, I had to rotate the back to get a better drape and reduce the pulling at the small of the back. This is how the fabric wanted to hang and who am I to argue with the fabric! I also did a small full bust adjustment on just one side to correct for my personal little asymmetry.

::Invece di fare un moulage sul manichino, quest'anno ho scelto di partire da un cartamodello già fatto, casomai voleste provare un DIY simile.

Il vestito dal quale ho tratto l'ispirazione è stato molto probabilmente tagliato in sbieco (posso solo che tirare a indovinare guardando come si adatta al corpo della modella) e sembra avere delle pince seno e qualche forma di ripresa sul dietro – dalle foto non si capisce molto la costruzione. In ogni caso, possiamo tranquillamente presumere che è stata usata una quantità discreta di tessuto … molto di più di quanto si può tirare fuori da due paia di pantaloni. Ma il tema è "inspirato da…" e non la "copia di …" quindi ho deciso di fare un top dalla linea leggermente svasata, che non necessità riprese in vita e può essere indossato sopra gonne, pantaloni e leggings (che possiamo mettere tranquillissimamente anche questa stagione … lo dice Cosmpolitan 😝). Il modello Burda 110 del numero di giugno 2017, un vestitino mono-spalla a trapezio mi è sembrato un buon punto di partenza. L'ho accorciato e stretto e ho tagliato una telina di prova che ho modificato sul manichino. In poche parole ho dovuto ruotare il dietro quasi in sbieco per ottenere un buon drappeggio. E' così che il tessuto voleva cadere e chi sono io per contradire il tessuto! Ho anche fatto una modifica unilaterale "seno pieno" per correggere le mie personali asimmetrie. ::::

::::I used the cashmere pair to cut the bodice and the facings after piecing front leg and back leg together on the straight grain.
From the second pair, I made the collar, which is cut on bias, the ties, and the pleated hem detail. This last one was a little bit trickier to make because of the angle of the hem and would have required a lot of fabric (besides the pleats themselves already using three times as much fabric). The solution I found was to pleat on an angle. I still had to use entirely both back legs though, and piece the pleats in the middle! I left the bottom edge raw with just a row of stitching to secure it.

::Ho usato i pantaloni in cashmere per tagliare il corpetto e le paramonture dopo aver prima unito il davanti al dietro gamba in dritto filo. Dal secondo paio ho realizzato il coletto (tagliato in sbieco), il fiocco e il dettaglio orlo con plissé. Per quest'ultimo ho dovuto un po' pensare perché non avevo abbastanza tessuto per fare la plissettatura che già del suo "consuma" due volte in più tessuto, quindi per fare 10cm di plissettato servono 30cm di tessuto. In più dovevo tagliarlo per mantenere l'inclinazione della linea dell'orlo. Ho risolto inclinando le pieghe stesse, poi montando una striscia dritta di plissé, le pieghe risultano verticali. Ho dovuto comunque comporre sia il davanti che il dietro da due pezzi distinti uniti al centro. Ho lasciato il margine "al vivo" con solo una linea di cucitura per fermare il tessuto dal sfilacciarsi troppo. ::::

::::This is pretty much it. I love it and it really fits into my wardrobe.
