::::The first year I took part in The Refashioners I made a shirt out of a shirt . Then I made jeans out of jeans . This year, why change? I made a suit out of a suit. Besides, with the 90's revival (cringing), power suits were bound to make a come back. In fact, they did: Glamour Magazine says they're IT and lists a bunch of celebs celebs "working trouser suits like a boss" to prove its point.
Armed with a seam ripper and guided by the "make do and mend" spirit of the 40s when wives frequently made jackets for themselves out of their husbands' suits, I got to work.

:: Il primo anno che ho partecipato a The Refashioners, partendo da una camicia ho fatto un'altra camicia . Poi, dei jeans vecchi sono diventati un nuovo paio . Quest'anno, perché cambiare? Ho preso un vecchio abito da uomo e l'ho trasformato in un abito per me. In più, visto l'attuale revival degli anni 90, c'era anche da aspettarsi il ritorno dei power suits. E, infatti, sono tornati: Glamour Magazine lo dichiara di tendenza e a tutta dimostrazione elenca una caterva di "celebs" che lo "indossano come dei boss" .
Armata da scucirino e guidata dallo spirito "make do and mend" degli anni 40 quando le donne spesso si trovavano a dover adattarsi i vecchi abiti dei loro mariti, mi sono messa al lavoro. ::::

I basically draped it on my dress form and here are the process photos:

::La giacca
In sostanza, l'ho drappeggiata sul manichino e qui sotto ci sono alcune foto di com'è andata: ::::

::::I kept almost all the underlying structure (canvases, interfacings etc.) intact. The only pieces I removed were the shoulder pads.
The most difficult part was the sleeves - they are two piece sleeves and I had to remove about 6-7cm from the width and redraw the sleeve cap (not documented above because it happened around 2 AM and involved lots of hand basting and some cussing).

The pants
I saw a similar pair made by Maison Margiela retailing for about 600£ and I thought: “Yeah. Nope. I can make that for nothing in a couple of hours!”I dug out the old pair of jeans - the ones that once upon a time fit me low rise but now won’t go past my buttocks and went all Margiela on them. I removed the pants zipper and sewed the fly shut. By mistake, I cut off the waistband extension but left the button in place because why not? If I get bored with it I can always cut it. The trouser waistband is sewn onto the jeans at the lower edge. I slimmed the leg by about 8-9cm and shortened them by 10cm. The challenge was putting in a crotch extension to be able to get the proper fit.

La parte più difficile sono state le maniche-sono maniche a due pezzi ho dovuto rimuovere circa 6-7 cm dalla larghezza e ridisegnare il colmo (niente documentazione foto poiché le ho montate alle due del mattino tra imprecazioni e chilometri d'imbastitura mano).

Il pantalone
Ho visto un paio simile fatto da Maison Margiela in vendita per circa 800€ E ho pensato: "non credo proprio posso farmeli a costo zero in un paio di orette". Ho tirato fuori un vecchio paio di jeans, quelli che una volta mi andavano bene a vita bassa ma adesso facevano fatica passare dai fianchi, ossia non passavano proprio, e con un colpo di forbice gli ho fatti diventare la parte alta. Ho tolto la cerniera dei pantaloni e ho cucito chiusa la patta. Per sbaglio ho tagliato l'estensione della cintura ma ho lasciato il bottone. Perché no? Se mi annoio, posso sempre toglierlo via. Il pantalone è attaccato al jeans con una cucitura nella parte inferiore della cintura. Ho rimosso circa 8-9 cm dalla gamba, e li ho accorciati di circa 10 cm. L'unica sfida è stata estendere il cavallo per poterli adattare bene. ::::

::Fatto ... E poi ho dovuto cucire anche un body Nettie per completare l'ensemble. Nello spirito dei Refashioners anche le scarpe che sto indossando sono un refashion. ::::

::Non vedo l'ora di scoprire cosa hanno fatto quest'altro le altre e altri partecipanti. Il cast di questa edizione è incredibile. Ebbene si, anche quest'anno Portia è riuscita a stupirci con la sua organizzazione impeccabile di questo evento.
