I didn’t feel like changing outfits so I made a dress; the perfect dress for my schedule.
I think strong colours and flashy prints are simply bad form when it comes to what to wear at an art exhibition. They can be so distracting for the people around you, trying to focus on the art itself. Rifle green windowpane check can never be distracting.

Our churches are old, big and draughty - wool and long seemed the way to go. This dress is quite fitted at the bust and I wore it over cashmere so I could take the jacket off during the service. With the dresses layered over turtlenecks trend going strong for fall 2016 (looks like the fashion community got tired of catching pneumonia) this dress has a definite future style wise … not that I really care.

A semi fitted waist and a gathered skirt are always a good idea in a “I know I am going to overeat” type of situation.::

“Ho bisogno di un vestito che vada bene per tutta la giornata! Non voglio dovermi cambiare…”

Penso che scegliere colori forti e stampe chiassose quando si va a vedere una mostra d’arte sia di dubbio gusto. Una cosa di cui un plaid verde canna di fucile non sara mai accusato è di creare disturbo visivo.

Il duomo della mia città è bellissimo ma non esattamente caldo dunque un vestito lungo in lana mi pare la scelta giusta. E abbastanza attillato sul seno e indossato sopra il maglioncino in cashmere mi ha permesso di poter togliere la giacca durante la funzione. Inoltre sembra che il vestito portato sopra una dolce vita sia ancora di tendenza per l’Autunno/Inverno 2016 (apparentemente la fashion community si è stancata di beccarsi la polmonite) perciò per quanto riguarda lo stile questo vestito ha futuro … non che me ne importi molto.

Un corpetto un po più lento in vita e la gonna arricciata sono sempre una buona idea in caso di potenziale abbuffata. ::::

::::The shaping of the bodice was very much decided by how I wanted the stronger white lines to run. The front has only side bust darts whilst the back has waist darts, a shaped center line and small shoulder darts. The armholes and neckline are finished with facings that are joined with the lining (IG pic). The lining in a very light ramie/poly blend extends 2cm below the ruffle with a third circle skirt. Because wool will never drape like the original blend seersucker and to give the skirt a nicer movement I inserted chain in the seam between the skirt body and the ruffle. ::
Il taglio del corpetto è stato determinato per lo più dall’andamento delle linee bianche. Il davanti ha solo pince laterali seno mentre il dietro ha pince in vita e delle piccole riprese sulle spalle. Lo scollo e il giromanica sono rifiniti con paramonture inserite nella fodera (vedi immagine). Ho usato una fodera leggerissima che si estende fino a 2 cm sotto la cucitura del volant con una gonna a un terzo di ruota. Visto che la lana non drappeggerà mai come il seersucker in misto qualcosa (boh?!), per darle un movimento un po più carino, ho inserito catena peso tra il corpo della gonna e il volant.::::

It was my intention to replicate all the neckline trim too but I couldn’t find the time to go to the fabric store. I had to use common satin tape which is way too heavy for that kind of treatment so I cut it short. To be honest, I must also admit I was getting bored with making all those one centimetre pleats.

In conclusion: I like taking a picture of a dress and trying to imagine how it was done, it’s a very good exercise. What I love about this particular dress is the mix between the seventies style and the “fin de siècle” vibe (that I took almost to the edge of steampunk with the use of this plaid). I also love wearing it; it’s one of those dresses that simply make me feel good :) ::
Mi sto rendendo conto che ultimamente mi piacciono parecchio i volant, le arricciature e le pieghe di ogni tipo e sorta e non capisco più chi sono!
Volevo persino mantenere tutte le decorazioni dello scollo ma non sono riuscita ad andare a comprare tessuto per farle. Ho dovuto usare del nastro di raso che francamente stava irrigidendo troppo il corpetto dunque ho “tagliato corto”. Beh la verità è che mi stavo anche cominciando a stufare di cucire pieghette da un centimetro.

Comunque e per finire: mi diverte molto vedere l’immagine di un vestito e provare a ricrearne la linea. Di questo vestito in particolare, adoro la mescolanza tra lo stile anni ’70 e l’aria “fin de siècle” (che ho accentuato parecchio con il plaid; quasi al limite del steampunk). Devo dire anche che mi piace tantissimo indossarlo; è uno di quei vestiti che mi fa sentire bene :) ::::

By their nature the “snaps” are temporary so they’re also excellent for venting and expressing doubts, frustrations and joys… It was fun and I think I’m gonna keep doing it … ::
Ps… ho deciso di sperimentare con Snapchat (mi sono iscritta come secondopiano) dunque mentre cucivo questo vestito ho inviato una serie di “snaps” di immagini della lavorazione e di dettagli. Per loro natura gli “snaps” sono temporanei quindi ottimi anche per esprimere incertezze, frustrazioni e gioia… Visto che mi è sembrato divertente intendo continuare la prassi … ::::
